UNA REUNION DE FAMILIA. . . .

Jorge kept this video on his belongings for almost 11 years...we found it after his passing....it was our family reunion in 2006

No matter how we look at this...

Our Hearts Are Where Our Treasure Is

Jorge had a lot of treasure inside his heart

we were the lucky ones, 

the ones that experience life with him 

His heart ….was Jorge's treasure and his legacy 

to all his family

to all the people he loved

I had hundreds of hundreds of hours of telephone and person to person conversations with my brother (possibly thousands...)

We discussed, many things...from sports, children, politics, health, women, love, marriages and work

but I always sensed this side about him, 

it was 

his Hungering and Thirsting for God 

that was paramount for him...in his life

As all our conversations always levitated towards God, 

towards the bible 

towards "la Divina Providencia" 

towards good.

I'm so lucky to have been his brother and one of his confidants.

All of us  are so lucky that we had Jorge in our lives.

There are so many people in this world that may have treasures,  may have money, status and an easy life

But the treasure that Jorge had to share was above anything else

He shared his heart 

he shared his treasure, 

his love

One laugh at a time..

Life has ups and downs. There will be good times, bad times, hard times and easy times. 

Everything is easier if one keeps a sense of humor, 

or at least surrounds oneself with those who have one 

Jorge was that for me...and most likely for most of us here in this room

You know, sometimes some of us at times...

may have gotten offended by this sense of humor

especially when it was directed to us 

I know that some did not understand this about him... 

He wasn't making fun OF YOU. 

He was telling you he LOVED YOU...

and that was his way to express himself

I was just watching a video we made in one of our family reunions...

he was referring to his daughter Elizabeth as someone that came from “Quillacollo”

Everybody laughed, even Elizabeth, because she know that was her dad's way of saying 

I love you

At the end...

Jorge had a mission in life and on May 7th, 2017 at approximately 4:30 PM

he took his last step 

I believe 

His mission in life was to take seven steps …before he die

These Steps Are:

·       The Step of being Kind

·       The Step of being Helpful

·       The Step of being Caring

·       The step of being Loving 

·       The step of being a Humble

·       The Step of having good humor

·       The Step of being Faithful

KIND, HELPFUL, CARING, LOVING, HUMBLE, FUNNY and FAITHFUL

STEP #1 Our brother was KIND

Like during the time he arrived in this country and he showed us his KINDNESS when my other brothers and sister we were still kids..

he used to send us packages by regular mail..

to us kids back then...that was Christmas for us..

and the joy it gave us will never, never leave my heart

STEP #2  Our brother was HELPFUL:

Being helpful WITH A FOLLOW-UP... anyone can be helpful one time or another... like is a duty, a checklist of some sorts that needs to be fulfilled ..to help someone and afterwards you are done...

But Jorge had a different way 

Jorge had a follow up every time he helped someone.

The love was not in the initial help...but in the follow-up

days, weeks, months later...he showed genuine concern to anyone that needed his help 

Like sometime someone will ask him..

"Can I stay in your home for a couple days, I don't have a place to go"

Most people will say..

Yes, possibly...depending on the circumstances?

For Jorge was 

Yes, but only for a couple days?...where are you going after that? 

Not only had he done this with family...but in some case strangers....living in his house

“Jorge, who is this guy?”

“No, it just someone that came from Central America and he does not a place to go..and I'm just helping him for a couple days" “

Ok...and that was that

2 weeks later I would 

“Where is that guy?”

“I'm getting him a job with this friend of mine...he starts working Monday! “

Step #3 OUR BROTHER WAS CARING

Jorge had a special relationship with people

He looked at them in a different way 

with a different heart

a heart full of treasure

He did not care what you wear, what car you drive and the size of your bank account 

he will look at your heart...and that was enough for him.

He did not care if you were fat, skinny or in between

He did not care if you were for Donald Trump or Clinton

He did not put conditions on his love..

it was pure and simple..

he had a love for you...just the way you are

also, 

He had a special caring relationship for our dad

Jorge loved him and he was the reason why my dad had a good life during his last years on earth.

Jorge cared for him...his last wife, Daniela and Sergio, her bother...until his last days

and I feel very emotional and very happy that he is now resting side by side with my dad in Sucre Bolivia

Step #4 OUR BROTHER WAS LOVING

You don't have to go too far to find this about him

He loved us and he wanted to be sure we knew this 

in particularly 

He loved his two daughters

Arminda and Elizabeth

They were his inspiration and the reasons for being proud all the time

He raised these two beautiful girls, being funny, loving, being positive and full of life.

They are an extension of him now...and they are part of his legacy 

Step #5 OUR BROTHER WAS HUMBLE

I bet you did not know that he formed groups to help immigrants in this country...how to have a relationship with God and how to have a relationship with their spouses.

I used to make fun of him....or at least try

He used to say, “I have a "Retiro" this Saturday and Sunday”

“Oh yeah? ...what is that for? “

“Oh, Father Viscardi and I will take turns to talk to them how to have a good relationship with their spouses and being a Christian..."

“Ok Bro, you were divorced ..how many times?”

….and Father Viscardi, how many times has he been married? or had a fight with a mad girlfriend or mad wife? “

he would say ...

"none?"

“You mean to tell me that you BOTH  are teaching these people about relationships? “

Yes, he said with conviction.

“Why bro why? ..isn't that a little ironic?”

Then he would say.

“Because ...if we don't Nano....they don't have anyone else to help them”

…and we teach them from our mistakes” 

and that was that!

STEP #6 OUR Brother was FUNNY: 

We all have so many stories about his sense of humor that I should write a book about it.

but just to tell you one..

Again, on that recent video of him in our family reunion

we were all lining up to take a picture of all the brothers and our sisters

by age...

Daniela, Carlos, Marcos, Cesar was missing, Chalo, Yo, Silvia and Jorge was the last one at the end.

as Jorge casually says

“Yes line up everybody... empezando de los feos al mas bonito”

and the final Step #7 OUR BROTHER WAS FAITHFUL

he said..(talking about God) 

“Esto es algo maravilloso para mi..

no sabia lo que me iba a pasar..

y ahora me doy cuenta que lo necesito en mi vida”

and he continue..

“Estos son las tres P's que hay en la biblia y una G”

“La primera "P" representa la PRESENCIA DIARIA de reconozer a Dios

La segunda "P" representa por PETICION de nosotros 

y la tercera "P" representa por PERDON de nuestors pecados..pedir perdon

Y la G representa GRACIAS a Dios por lo que nos da y nos ha dado

Nunca pense que yo me iba encontrar con EL CARA A CARA o tener una reacion con EL

Y la manera como me ha favorecido a mi personalmente

me ha aumentado mi fe 

y que ahora por ejemplo

yo me puedo acostar mi cabeza en mi almohada

y en 5 a 10 minutos ya estoy durmiendo

esa es la paz que yo me he ganado con SU PRESENCIA

El es el pan de vida 

y yo lo siento , y lo siento que el me ha dado

y HOY….

“Ya no me falta nada”

 The only time I shared the stage with my brother.... 

Our brother Jorge lives with us in memory

He will always be with us

Never leave his side,  his laughs,  the happy times and the joy he brought to all our lives

on this one-year anniversary of his death let us rejoice instead of cry

because he rests in peace

in the place he always wanted to be and deserved so much

I always keep him deep in my heart 

where he hears my voice 

and I feel his presence 

where I feel the calm of his voice

and I know... it will be ok

He will always be with us..

and we will always be with him

Nunca dejes de su lado,  sus risas, los momentos felices y la alegría que trajo a todas nuestras vidas

En este aniversario de su muerte, 

regocijémonos en lugar de llorar

porque él descansa en paz

en el lugar que siempre quiso ir..

y que lo mereció

en el profundo de mi corazón

y siento su presencia

y siento la calma de su voz

y yo sé ... que todo estará bien
